Analysis of Magazine Titles

The Kerrang logo has many connotations through its name, image and colour palettes. The first representation is has is that the name is an onomatopoeic spelling for the noise of a power chord. The colour palettes of black and white show its simplistic edge, however the font is up to date and fashionable, which will attract a younger market, which they are targeting primarily. Another connotation of the colours would be that due to the fact one colour is the extreme of one end of the colour palette and the other is at the other end it can represent the difference in opinion, as if saying you either like it or you don't there is no in between.

The connotations presented by the 'Dazed and Confused' logo represent a more formal language register, I say this because the font colours are black and white, however because the font is in capitals I feel it connotes importance. I also feel that the because the name is dazed and confused, it represents the fact that there is lots of content, because the audience should feel they don't know where to start when beginning to read the magazine. This could also suggest that it isn't just full of news on latest music, but there is content from other genres such as fashion and celebrity lifestyle.

The NME logo is in large capitals which connotes its importance, and the factor that the brand want to gain and maintain a large public awareness for their magazine. It has a red, black and white main colour palette which connotes the fact it is or should be centre of attention. The logo used to be an acronym of 'New Music Express' however now is known as a shortened version to ensure more people recognise it globally.
