Lewis Watson is a prime example of how social media can have a bearing on how large a fan base can potentially be.

In 2010 he posted a YouTube Video (cover of Bombay Bicycle Clubs - Swansea)
He used the username 'HolyLoowis' to avoid his friends from finding out what he was posting

His subscribers increased rapidly after this video, due to it being a popular cover
2012 was the release of his first EP called 'Its got four sad songs on it BTW' which secured a record deal with Warner Music

His peak chart position was in 2013 with the song 'calling' from his fourth EP

2013 He toured with Birdy in Australia which inspired songs for future EP's

2013 he had a UK Tour which was extended due to popular demand of his fans on Twitter

2013 he played on the Glastonbury introducing stage

2014 he was nominated singer songwriter tips for 2014 by HMV

He currently has:
75,926 YouTube Subscribers
69,545 Twitter Followers
83,881 Facebook Likes
33,000 Instagram Followers
He has risen in popularity and given career changing experiences through social media sites such as YouTube, which have enabled him to create and expand on a fan base, not only across the UK but across the world, mainly America and Australia, as well as Europe.

All of Lewis's success is down to his very first YouTube video, he made when he was 16 years old, when he was given his first ever guitar for his birthday. He had no lessons, only taught himself, and posted a video online to get public response.
