Evaluation of Preliminary Magazine

How does your prelim represent particular social groups?

With the theme of a school magazine, it is particularly aimed at the year groups which make up the school - in this case, year 10-13, with a population of around 2000 students. This is a minor, specific audience because the content with in the magazine will only be relevant to those who attend or work in the school. It would be more specifically aimed at the geeky stereotype of social groups, as they are more interested in the content such as after school clubs etc.

Who would be the intended audience for your product?

The intended audience is marketed to the population of the school, to outline the key features of what is going on, and the future, upcoming events which could have a bearing on the school day. This will attract students as the school, particularly the organised ones due to the fact they will want to read about what is going on, as well as perhaps getting involved.

How did you attract/address your audience?
I used a photo of a student smiling to grab the attention of the audience, because they will connect to their face and realise he goes to the school. Also, this will then develop an interest of the older aged students, because Anthony's friends will want to read it, and he is in the sixth form. The colours I used also connects to the logo on year 10 and 11's school uniform which will help identification and perhaps make them want to read it. The small sections of information include names of articles which would take more students interest, which can attract their attention.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
The use of photoshop is a difficult skill to develop, especially when just becoming familiar with how to use it, the tools that you can use and what they do. This is something I have become more experienced with as this is the second task I have done on this software. With the combined knowledge of myself and students in my class, we all learnt the uses of photoshop. This enabled me to create a magazine cover and contents which would be realistic to sell in a school to students, however wasn't quite up to professional standard by appearance. For my real piece, I will ensure I have developed the skills on photoshop enough to make it look professional.
