Magazine Background Research

3 * Wonderland"Wonderland is an international, independently published magazine offering a unique perspective on the best new and established talent across all popular culture: fashion, film, music and art.
We entertain, challenge and inform both men and women with editorial and fashion shot by the most in-demand photographers working today – we want to represent the positive and the playful elements of the fashion industry. We’re about inspiring, rather than dictating to our readers.
The magazine is available from all good newsagents and WH Smith. You can find us online at wonderlandmagazine.com. Follow us on Facebook and Twitter."
I have taken this from the wonderland website in which has given me more of an idea of what I will create for my final piece. The first sentence where this quote says it will offer a perspective of the best new established talent, is the particular type of articles I wish to include in my magazine. However it would be more based on music than any other topic such as fashion, film and art, because it would be a more personal magazine to not only the audience but to the artists included.

Billboard's Adele"The Billboard brand is built on its exclusive charts and unrivaled reporting on the latest news, issues and trends across all genres of music. Billboard receives hundreds of millions of brand impressions daily through many strategic relationships with major companies across various industries.  These relationships leverage Billboard's brand recognition, proprietary chart data and information resources to develop products, live events and print, television, radio, digital and mobile platforms.  In addition to North America, Billboard operates businesses in Brazil, Greece, Japan, Korea and Russia."

I have taken this from the billboard magazine website, the reason for why this stood out was that it states billboard expresses "unrivalled reporting on the latest news and trends across all genres of music" which is very relatable regarding my style of magazine. With the idea of a mainstream magazine having a singer songwriter issue which I will produce, it reflects a symmetrical aim, which will have the similar sort of target age group my magazine will.

Beyonce's pop
"For 20 years, Dazed & Confused Magazine has been at the forefront of youth culture. Defining the times, each issue showcases agenda-setting editorial and pioneering fashion photography. Based in London but created by an international collective of writers, image-makers and stylists, Dazed and its website dazeddigital.com is read in print and online by over 500,000 style leaders. It is quite simply the most influential and successful independent magazine title on the planet."

I took this from the Dazed magazine website purely because it mentions that it has been the "forefront of youth culture" for 20 years, which means it creates a big impression on a wide market, rather than just a small very specific target. This relates to my idea of a mainstream magazine because even though the issue I want to produce will be for a very niche market, it will attract many different audiences because previous issues and later issues will be of different styles of a magazine such as indie, rock, pop etc.
